Haifa, Morning, Sirens. Coffee?

Earlier in the morning 28 rockets hit the north of the country, 10 people were injured. In the last hour we heard four six alarms in Haifa. During, I've had CNN open and Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the Larry King Show.

That picture above is of him shaking the hand of Nasrallah. That man has zero credibility in my opinion.

So during the sirens, during the 28 rockets that hit the north, during the 10 people injured, none of which was shown anywhere so far, he had this to say (and I'm paraphrasing):
"Yeah Hezbollah is kind of responsible for starting this, but we need a ceasefire to end the hostilities, Iran and Syria are friendly countries and we should start talking to them. It's not fair that Israel is attacking bridges and roads in Lebanon because medical provisions can't be delivered, food provisions can't be delivered..." - and weapon provisions can't be delivered either, can they Kofi?

Israel allowed a corridor for medical aid and for people to leave. But it is an inconvenience right now to deliver weapons into Lebanon. Bummer. He also complained how what Israel is doing might overthrow the democratic government in Lebanon. Excuse me, Hezbollah overrunning the country and weakening the government until it's powerless to control it in any way didn't threaten the democratic government in Lebanon? Or is it UN policy to pretend the problem is not there and maybe it will go away.

Blows my mind that they don't say anything about the million people who have been living in bunkers for the past 10 days and all of those who had (or decided) to drop everything and move south until this is over. Kofi is out of there come December.

In other news, the US is providing us with precision missiles. Thank you US. What's really great is how people here are holding firm, 10 days and they show no sign of breaking. We can do this siren thing all day.

  • Hang in there. There are many people in the US that are backing the Israeli military in their effort to weaken/harm the Hez.

Ignore the mainstream media, they are a very small segment of our country. GWB got two terms, didn't he?

Although I am an atheist and Irish, I hope to visit Israel soon and meet some of the toughest people on earth. I can't wait !!!!!

  • I am not an atheist (I'm a Christian), but atheist is right. I don't know "personally" a signal person who is not hoping for Israeli victory over these "cowardly" terrorist, that like to "hit and run"!
My prayers are w/you and you're family and all innocent people caught up in this.
Thank you for your writings daily that keep us informed.

Stay the course. G-d speed. Stay safe yourself.

  • Eugene! nice Characature you have up there! who drew it for you and is there a way we can see a bigger version of it?

I'm gonna go and make a little prediction here: We are no doubt providing the IDF with Precision Weaponry in an effort to help them REDUCE the amout of civillian casualties in this war. I gurantee you though that the World stage and Fudamentalist Muslims will see this as a bad thing, more evil christians supporting the zionist conspiracy.

Heh, Even when we help they spin it and make it look like were doing evil.

By Blogger LibrarianAkios, at 3:25 PM

  • Obviously it's to reduce civilian casualties. You can see a larger version of the caricature by following the link to PoliticsCentral.com under the media section.

It was drawn by Roman Genn who is a wonderful artist.

  • You have to understand, that 1.x billion muslims are watching this.

    http://leb-monitor.com/pages/main.html

What you are doing is only a recruitment campaign for the next war.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:42 PM

  • I already went this before, there is a story behind that picture.

Hezbollah is hiding amongst the civilian population and actually preventing them from leaving (I have confirmation on that) and when there are inevitable civilian casualties they take pictures and claim Israel is targeting civilians. It's part of their propaganda machine.

Lebanese blogs are full of Israeli comments.
Israeli blogs are full of American comments.

By Blogger Live from an Israeli bunker, at 4:02 PM

  • You make a great point that I think about constantly. With all the discussion in the media of Lebanese refugees, I have not heard a single mention of the fact that hundreds of thousands of Israelis have fled their homes too. The fact that their fellow Israelis have taken these people in and they aren't living out in the open works - in the media - to Israel's disfavor. Once again, Israelis' concern for their fellow citizens works against them. ironic

By Anonymous DRW, at 4:10 PM

  • o_2opine_o, stop with the Democratic/Liberal agenda shit... Life is great around the center because it encompasses ideas from both the left and the right. I'm no fan of the far left anymore than I am of the far right. I support Israeli's right to fight this war and I also support gay rights. So sue me!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:35 PM

  • Hey, BunkerBlogger, there's a distinct possibility that maybe, just maybe, Kofi is 1) a corrupt idiot, and 2) not a friend of the US and Israel. Hope this doesn't shock you too bad.

    [sarcasm alert]:

Hey, Lebmonitor, nice propaganda page. Yes, you're right, Israeli children are launching artillery directly at innocent Lebanese kids. Hizbollah shelling has absolutely nothing to do with it. And the West needs to be careful about inflaming "moderate" Muslims because 1) moderate Muslims don't support radical Muslims one bit, and 2) moderate Muslims would love us if only we just wouldn't fight. Yet moderate Muslims are always on the verge of becoming terrorists, I guess. All it takes is just a tiny push, and the gulf between moderate Muslims and radical Muslims is easily surmounted. Moderate Muslim one day, terrorist the next... all it takes is the West defending itself against Muslims who are already terrorists to push their moderate counterparts over the edge. This doesn't exactly make me want to concede to the moderate Muslims... they don't sound so "moderate" after all, when you put it the way you do.

But, yes, war is ugly and evil, inherently. Children die in it. That's why it's a last resort. Blame your Hizbollah buddies for starting this, leb-monitor.

  • You guys have bunkers, safety. The people in Lebanon don't have anything resembling a country anymore.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:05 PM

  • Don't let terrorists start conventional wars using your country as a staging ground, or else the consequences might be unfortunate? Might that be the lesson?

Sorry that war isn't fair. Instead of moral outrage against the terrorists, your outrage is against those who defend themselves against the terrorists... based on the fact the latter are better prepared. Sour grapes.

And that's nonsense that Lebanon is destroyed, and you know it.

By Anonymous Mr. Kite, USA, at 5:13 PM

  • I think its very unfair that you dont blame your country for killing innocent civilians. No doubt Hezbullah are responsible for whats going on but they are crazy terrorists without any brains.

If every country were to take revenge for Terrorist bombings in this way,the world would cease to exist. It unfair and stupid for Israel to kill more innocent ppl. like this since their own ppl. get killed too!!

The more they bomb, the more innocent ppl. die on BOTH sides.

By Anonymous PeaceLover, at 5:43 PM

  • anonymous 5:05pm. Hezbollah seems to have a lot of bunkers and bomb shelters... They're not allowing the Lebanese people to use them? Despite years and years of war in Lebanon, no government ever thought to build bomb shelters for the people?

Sad... How does that saying go? You know, the one that goes something like nobody will you until you love yourself first.

    Stay well, Eugene.

As an American, that's what I like to hear.

You're welcome, by the way! :)

By Blogger ThirDEE, at 5:49 PM

  • "PeaceLover" you can't expect me or the Israeli government to pick the safety of Lebanese civilians over ours.

Your claim or hope that if Israel were to stop bombing then bombing would stop on both sides is misguided. If Israel was to stop bombing it will still get bombed.

To stop the bombing you have no choice here but to eradicate the source of it.

It's very well to want peace, believe me that most Israeli and Lebanese would like nothing better. But your ideology and hopes while emotionally in the right direction, are just not in touch with the existing reality.

Hezbollah are extremists, very different than most other Muslims. They are facist and see any Isreli as an enemy and worthy of being killed.
My best wishes go to every inoccent person, of any race or religion, in this war.

I'm glued to my television for every bit of FACTUAL information I can get but first I must sit through all the useless opinions and other stuff from our liberal media here. I'm saddened by the fact that I'll never be able to come to Israel and see your beautiful land or meet your wonderful people. I pray for you and your military as you do what has to be done. God bless you and all of Israel. Please respond. From Jeff in the southern United States.

  • american president Woodrow Wilson said that world war 1 was "a war to end all wars". which appears to apply to the case we have here right now.

but then again, people who already hate israel/jews/american/west/democracy and so on, won't be much impressed if the Hizballa will be eliminated, and they will keep on using the pictures of the innocents killed in lebanon now (or in gaza, after we pulled out of there) to brainwash more people and make them think their fight is right.

on the other hand, if hizballa is eliminated, and some militery force will sit there, and we get our soldiers back, and maybe give lebanon shabea farms, there is one less reason to have our next wars.

    but who knows.

be safe in the bunker, from your fellow shelter dweller in Haifa.

  • the united states and israeli military are the most humane on earth or in the history of mankind

and while i do agree with catlina the fact is that many muslims do go to extremes to state how they are all moderate like i said before once new a guy who liked everyone even jews hated all israelis because that was how hed been tot and because thats all he has been shown

i wish and im shure that most everyone that has spoken on this page just wants peace in lebanon israel palastin all over the world. but many in the world would rather hate lie murder because its simply easier. human beings arnt that much different from animals and even chimpazes kill othere chimpanzes animals kill for food some ppls kill simply cause it makes them feel good.

so think about it this way israel keept its peace agreement hezbollah and the other terrorist didnt killing and kiddnapping 2 soldiers these are the same type of ppl that in iraq kiddnapped a boy rapped him and dumped his body for all to see....these are not the actsof men but mad dogs that must be put down for our futures but most importantly our childrens futures itll be hard in the future ppl we need peace to survive or the 100 today will be 10,000 tomarrow

By Blogger james, at 6:36 PM

  • Catinabox, you misunderstood my post. I was criticizing the argument of Leb-monitor, who argued that 1.2 billion Muslims would become terrorists if Israel defends itself. If that were so, then all it would take for moderate Muslims to become terrorists would be a small push... meaning that the distinction between moderate Muslims and terrorist Muslims was pretty fuzzy. If what he's saying were true, then I don't particularly think it would be in the West's interests to concede any ground to terrorists. But that's a conditional statement on my part, one that was responding to Leb-monitor's veiled threat that the entire Muslim world was on the verge of joining the Jihad. You missed the point of what I was saying, unfortunately. It's not racism to criticize dumb arguments by fleshing out their logic and exposing the ridiculousness embedded within them. But nice of you to think the worst, rather than taking the time to read carefully. I guess "sarcasm alert" wasn't explicit enough for you? Besides, Islam isn't a "race"...

By Anonymous Mr. Kite, USA, at 6:58 PM

  • Who wins with all this mess?
There is just one answer: Iran rulers [sorry for their people, I guess they love their children too (where is Sting?)].

US does not have the power to invade Iran. Whilst UN continues to comment (sorry but we can not expect any decision) over Israel & Lebanon, Iran continues to develope nuclear "supremmacy".

    Better God bless us all.

I guess we are getting to the point where casualties start to mount for the IDF - but this battle has been delayed too long.

Be interesting to see if Syria pops up to provide a target for US AWACS planes............after all Syria has two borders to watch now.

So, I send the very best of luck to you from Britain and hope you are getting all the help (discreetly) that you need. I suppose those shelters are sticky without A/C and really boring...........but don't ever think you are alone..........a lot of people around the world are rooting for you !

  • The UN well i thought the were useless sence i was 12 saq something once it was about rawanda when its was just begining a mercinary corp said for 100,000 dollars and 500 men it could restore peace in rawanda and save lives...they were denied so 1mil ppls died...it took the those 100mil and 123mil dollars to stabblize the situation(even though it had already been done by both parties in the civil war)...ah yes and did you know the un charter mandates they must get into any conflict that involves genocide(probbly put there as a precation against earlier events what ever those could have been..)anyways how did the un get out of sending troops you ask? simple they didnt use the word genocide...untile it was to late. i sopport the un army but its the un councel i questionis it sane for a human rights councel to contain the same ppl who went ahead and violated those rights?

By Blogger james, at 8:33 PM

  • Regarding bunkers, Israel cares about the citizens and seeks to protect them, the hezzis do not care and spent no money or effort to protect the Lebanese, besides when they hide among the innocent and innocents are killed they cry and say look what you did,and the stupid media laps it up. UN out of the US,US out of the UN.

Please, let's have a reality check. I'm not happy about the destruction of parts of Beirut and Tyre, but to say that the people in Lebanon don't have anything resembling a country anymore is a ridiculous exxageration.

As soon as I heard on CNN this morning that Haifa had been hit, I honestly thought of you and your family.

Have you considered leaving to a "safer" place?

    Shalom

P.S. I am looking for photos of damage and wounded in Irsael, so I can post on my blog, do you recommend a trustworthy site for that?

By Blogger Sunny, at 6:45 AM

  • you know, it just might be that 300+ civilian death, and a million displaced people have a bit more priority than 13 dead, and a million people who are getting bored sitting in their bunkers.

the lebanese have no bunkers to shelter in. they are also funning out of food and medical supplies.

also note that hizbollah didn't launch rockets at israel until after israel started bombing civilian targets.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:33 AM

  • Ideally, all countries should get rid of their nukes, including the US. But let's be slightly more realistic. should at the very least Israel, paksitan, and india be pressured to get rid of them? additionally israel (unlike iran) has NOT signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

I totally understand why korea and iran are being so difficult to deal with. they're being treated with a double standard.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:19 AM

  • "kill them all" is not something you want to say to somebody who you want to stop bombing a country you care (or are in) about.

Lebanese have been repeatedly told to go north and out of harms reach, Israel is allowing medical and food supplies to reach you.

The truth is that you prefer your own people and don't care about any Israelis dieing. Your allowed, but don't expect us to do the same.

We won't pick the safety of the Lebanese over our own. Next time don't allow the Hezbollah and similar organizations to run the country.

If your secretly disappointed and outraged that Hezbollah didn't get away with it then there is no point talking to you.

Think about it, you wish us death and complain when you receive the same. Take a step back, you don't have to love us, but if you won't threaten us none of this needs to happen. I hope these words will not be lost on you, but I don't expect much.

By Blogger Live from an Israeli bunker, at 12:50 PM

  • May Israel and all israelies whos supporting this war to ROT in hell.

Hezbuallah is not hiding among civilians, Israel plan to cause largest amount of casualities in lebanese and destorying their infra-structure for the sake of eliminating hezbullah.

Everytime you find resistance you call them terrorists..who the hell you think you are fooling?

So are all lebanese being terrorists now? thats pathetic to even see you thinking like that.

They are legit and defending their land and soil, just give them their prisoners and get you 2 lousy soliders and call it off.

That bitch name Condolesa Rice said "We will give israel more time to finish the job"

    What job? killing innocent people?
USA is even giving precised missiles for the sake of an accurate hit, zionism is spreading liek a plague or cancer in the marron of world`s bones.

Since when the whole country start a war just to get 2 soldiers back? knock it off thats complete joke and israel had hidden agenda to start a war and this incident just pulled the trigger nothing more.

So far Israel has failed to achieve any victory in its war against hezbullah, hitting targets from airplanes is not big deal..the key issue in any confilcts with your artillery and soldiers confornting on ground operations, so far hezbullah is kicking your asses big time and you couldnt go any further except couple of villages that been evacuated already by hezbullah before the war has started.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:00 PM

  • Do you want us to go any further? Again, I can't stress this enough, Israel does not want to concur or occupy Lebanon or stay there after this.

Israel is a sovereign Democratic country. You do not drop millions of dollars worth of bombs on civilians just because. There is no motivation, no reason for us to do that.

Unless you buy into the "big bad jew wants to steal your children and eat them" paranoia. Think, think for gods sake! You really think all of this is an excuse to bomb civilians from jet fighters for fun?

"Everytime you find resistance you call them terrorists..who the hell you think you are fooling?

So are all lebanese being terrorists now? thats pathetic to even see you thinking like that.

They are legit and defending their land and soil, just give them their prisoners and get you 2 lousy soldiers and call it off."

Resistance to what? We pulled out of there 6 years ago. What are they defending exactly?

I never said all Lebanese are terrorists now. The Hezbollah is, if you help the Hezbollah then you are as well.

The prisoners they want are people like that one (forget the name) who got into a boat, came to Naharyia took a 4 year old girl and her father outside, smashed her head with a rock and shot the father. And they will want hundreds of these, thousands, for two soldiers.

    Enough is enough.
"Since when the whole country start a war just to get 2 soldiers back?" - Straw that broke the camels back. Not to mention that all these rockets Hezbollah has/had didn't just appear out of nowhere, it took them years to build that up and they planned this.

Isreal does not have a "secret agenda", we didn't pull out 6 years ago to come back again. We aren't coming back either, were clearing Hezbollah out so our civilians are out of range.

Don't, don't buy into the lies Nasrallah is feeding you. He is the one with the secret agenda, he very well knew this would happen and he didn't give a damn about what would happen to Lebanon and the Lebanese.

Think with your head. As for Hezbollah not holding civilians and preventing them from leaving it's been proved and known. I even had independent confirmation via this blog from your fellow Lebanese citizen.

By Blogger Live from an Israeli bunker, at 2:25 PM

  • When I read: "kill the Israeli, kill them all", I just think poor guy. I don't wish anybody to be killed, and when I see a child killed, it is not an israeli child, or a lebanese child, or even an iranian, it is A CHILD.

Although I am half Christian, half Jewish, I am also proud that I have Muslim friends and have learned a lot from some of them, those who are tolerant.
